MANCHESTER PROPERTY MARKETING PHOTOGRAPHER
CAPTURES ASPIRATIONAL ARCHITECTURE PHOTOGRAPHY OF ICONIC CITY BUILDING

Project: Architecture, interiors, and lifestyle photography | Newly refitted co-working office space 196 Deansgate, Manchester

I was recently commissioned by property client CEG to photograph the newly refurbished areas of this iconic Manchester building, along with the shared spaces, reception area, and exterior. Local area photographs were also required to highlight the city life and the enviable central location and amenities, as well as show the architecture of this Victorian building in the context of the wider city-centre.

THE BUILDING

The building was designed in a free baroque style by Charles Heathcote and Sons, and first opened in 1908 with The Royal London Friendly Society taking up residence. The building has recently been restored and one of the floors has been opened up as a stunning city-centre shared working space, with many of the original period features retained.

THE PHOTOGRAPHY

I visited the building a few times for this shoot as I wanted to understand how the lighting and ambiance changed at different times of day. Being right in the heart of the city, it's surrounded by tall buildings which makes for interesting shadows that I wanted to capture and include in the final work.

I used a wide-angle lens on a lot of the interior photography in this shoot as you'd expect, to try and show the scale. But I also switched to a 50mm f/1.4 lens for some of the detail shots and even some of the exterior photography. I find they feel warmer, and more intimate. And where people are interacting in the lifestyle photography, I will use a long lens so as not to be too intrusive.

THE RESULTS

The photographs were used across the CEG website and brochure, as well as in supporting marketing materials and across social media channels as part of a promotional placemaking campaign for 196 Deansgate.
