MORE THAN JUST A SUSTAINABILITY AND ETHICAL BUSINESS POLICY

In lieu of a wordy statement hidden in the footer of my website, I’m implementing an organic, fluid touchstone as my statement of professional responsibility. A reminder for myself to ‘Be Good’ – by making good choices whenever possible that consider the planet and people first.

I’ve deliberated for so long about how to adopt policies for my business and how I should communicate them. But I could deliberate forever and what I actually need to do is just take some action. So this is where I’m starting.

I don't get everything right all the time but I do pay attention and I do learn. So the idea is that as I learn, I grow – and as I grow, I make changes for good, both in how I live and work.

I’ll be using this page to document those changes and to highlight what I am doing to be better.

MARCH 2024 UPDATE

This is the first update I’m adding to this page, to build on the initial pledges I made to be a more responsible, ethical and sustainable business.

It can be difficult to know where to start but I needed some structure in my plans to help identify some goals to aim for. Thankfully, there is a lot of information and support out there to get you started.

As I work with clients in the Higher Education sector I came across the NETpositive Supplier Tool for Higher Education which offers a checklist and questionnaire that then generates a list of actionable goals to work toward. I’ve started my journey with the tool, and you can view my progress HERE. I'll be checking back in with my responses each month to make sure I'm moving in the right direction.

In addition, I’ve also decided to organise my policy and actions into three categories:

1 - How I run my business
2 - The businesses I work with
3 - How I give back

In my next update I’ll expand on these categories and define some actions in each category that will help me move toward my goals.
