AUTHENTIC STUDENT LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY
FOR LANCASTER UNIVERSITY

Student life photography and authentic city lifestyle photography – showing what student life is like around the city of Lancaster.

It's important for a campus-based university like Lancaster to showcase the wider city and what it has to offer, so that students can see that there is so much more to student life beyond the campus.

I've worked with the University marketing team on previous campus-based photoshoots creating engaging student lifestyle photography that shows students on-site, studying, using the groundbreaking technology available for specific faculties, and exploring the many facilities and beautiful green spaces available to them – all within the bounds of the University site itself.

For this project they wanted to show off more of the city and some of the unique qualities it has to offer. What attracts students to decide to study at Lancaster University? The distinct heritage architecture and rich history certainly play a role, so focusing part of the shoot around Lancaster Castle and The Priory makes sense.

But we also wanted to incorporate the geographical location into the photoshoot – highlighting the proximity of Lancaster to both the coast and the dramatic fells of the Lake District – features you would naturally want to include in marketing or PR photography for the University.

And then of course the city centre itself boasts some great hospitality destinations like the newly opened Nando's or Kanteena, a new forward-thinking event space that's part bar / club / street-food hub.

We also shot students enjoying Williamson Park with the iconic Ashton Memorial backdrop, and having fun with the mini-beasts at the Butterfly House.

Again, I worked with EXP. on this university photography as they provide much of the design work for the client, so were on hand to help with the art direction of the shots. For me it was important to ensure that we captured authentic lifestyle photography of the students and also convey a sense of fun and enjoyment.

I've already started seeing some of the images from this shoot come through in the Universty's marketing materials and so have included a couple of examples in this post.
